"It's not all that"

by Ronnie on Nov 8th, 2004 at 11:34 PM:

Don't get me wrong, the sr7400 sounds fine. I am using it with a M&K home theater system. The problem I had was with the on screen menu. Two weeks after my purchase the menu failed and without it the speakers cannot be adjusted. After contacting Marantz, I was told the reciever would have to be shipped back to them at my expense. The local Seattle area authorized service dealer also told me that they do not actually do any repairs, but only facilitate the return to the factory. I asked them what is the difference whether I send it back or them? There response was "NO DIFFERENCE". In conclusion, the Pro IIx portion is great, but it will be great in any brand with this option.

Amazing sound

This is the best sounding receiver i've heard under $3k. The video upsampling is very handy, i only run component out to my hd set and do all my switching thru the receiver and an external switch box for my game consoles (2nd component vid input). I'm running a paradigm monitor 6.1 setup and i'm blown away by how good my speakers sound now. This receiver is worth every dollar.

Great receiver

Have had the 7400 for 2 weeks. System has awesome sound generation driving ADS speakers LCR, Surefire sub, and Bose petites in the rear. Two component outs and 6 optical audio inputs. Only problem has been a drop out of audio for a fraction of a second every couple of minutes. I checked with my friend at the dealers, there were a batch with a bad bias on a capacitor that causes it. They are replacing it. The problem only shows up on the 7400 and only using optical input. Good for Marantz, they acknowledge the problem and are doing a no hassle replacement. Also, no DVI in or out.
