Have had the 740 radio for 8 months the sound is exceptional, the AM FM tuner needs a good antennas to get the most out of this radio, that said the 740 radio is a dream come true!

Deep rich sound but nice & compact

I purchased my Soundworks CD-740 in Berkeley, CA from the Cambridge Soundworks store. I was impressed with it's deep, rich sound yet compact look. When playing music and in another room it's sounds as if you have a big stereo system playing. I use this system as my only home stereo system in my condo and it does its job well. I can even hook up my iPod to it easily with a mini stereo cable. For those who want the big rich sound of a big system but do not want to take up the space, this is the ticket.

Decent, but...

I did a side-by-side comparison with the Bose Wave. The Bose wins by pretty good margin. The CD-740 has nicer features, but it lacked in reception strength, sound quality, functionality, and looks. I'm keeping the Bose and sending the 740 back. FM reception was very, very weak. Sound quality was okay, but you had to adjust the loudness, treble and bass to balance. Out of the box it wasn't as good as the Bose. In terms of functionality, it was okay, but the features were diffficult to access and laid out illogically. The remote did't work well; it reminded me of the first TV remotes, where you had to point it directly at the TV with a clear line of sight with your arm stretched out. As far as looks, Bose winds hands down. The Bose is sleeker, more sophistcated, and timeless. I wish the 740 was just a tiny bit better. I would've kept it. It might have the nicer features (display, track names, adjustable bass), but it lacked in the basics: reception strength and sound quality.

Awsome sound

Do you feel lucky?

Having read that there was a problem with this unit keeping accurate time I called Cambridge in December 04 to find out if they had fixed the problem. I was assured they had last spring and so I went ahead and ordered it. You guessed it....when I got it the thing gained over a minute a day and the display wouldn't dim. I sent the defective unit back within 2 weeks but they expected me to pay the return shipping. Had to argue to get that sorted out. They were supposed to send me a new one. That was a month ago. I haven't heard a word so I called them. They couldn't help me. Said I would have to write to 'Borderfree'. Right now I am out C$460 and have no clock radio. You would have to be crazy to deal with these guys!
