Very poor quality, difficult, time consuming and costly repairs

by Mark Laramore on Jan 17th, 2008 at 9:21 AM:

User Score: 1.png I am very disappointed with this television set. I had two Light Engines replaced in the first year under the manufacturer's warranty. Each one required two visits by the service technician and about 3-4 weeks to resolve. They replaced the lamp with each visit, so I have only had to replace one additional lamp over the past 4 years. My latest catastrophic failure has to do with the two separate Power Supply units. The TV has been down for over a month (During football season-Good thing I bought that Sunday Ticket from Direct T.V.: P) and during the last service call the technician (A senior Technician who also teaches electronics at the local junior college) informs me that he needs to have the T.V. picked up and taken to the shop in order to complete the repair. He says that he knows of nothing but problems with this unit and even indicated that there are rumblings of a class action lawsuit as a result. He also said that they cannot get any technical support from Samsung to assist his technicians in repairs and said it is extremely frustrating.

My take away message is;

I will never buy another SAMSUNG product ever again.

Very bad TV

by Jeremy on Jan 23rd, 2006 at 10:21 AM:

User Score: 1.png This tv is not very good. After a few weeks it broke down and prior to that the picture was junk. Its aux components are also not very good. I would not recomend it to anyone. The price is also a rip off.

Dead on Arrival

User Score: 1.png My Samsung 61" dlp was dead on arrival when it arrived from Best Buy. No picture no sound no nothing. I get the replacement one tomorrow, if it is doa I will get a complete refund. They give you 30 days to change your mind.My advice is get the extended warranty,after all its made in Mexico

Dim Picture

by Kevin on Feb 21st, 2005 at 9:27 AM:

User Score: 2.png I am very disappointed. Although the set looked great in a dark showroom, my viewing room is light. A football game on Sunday afternoon is hardly visible. In addition, the black levels are so poor that significant detail is lost when watching Batman or similarly dark films. Im now shopping for a plasma at roughly the same price.

Number of premature failures-Poor

by Grumpy on Dec 30th, 2004 at 5:26 AM:

User Score: 2.png I have the Samsung HLN617W., purchased new in mid 2003. Initaillay it had great picture quality, which rapidly degraded to a mediocre picture. After 4-6 months, a loud high pitched shrieking noise came from the set while it was operating. I had to have the lamp and color wheel replaced. It worked for about 7-8 months and the same shrieking noise is coming from the unit again. Now its out of warrenty and I think it wil be at least $600 to fix it.

I expedted more from a $5200 set only 18 months old
