Tivoli Model 3

by M. Harmon on Aug 29th, 2007 at 9:59 AM:

I have always wanted to buy one of these but did not want to pay $200. When Target was clearing them out at $100 I made the purchase. It looks great and has a solid feel. The radio sounds good, but not nearly as good as the Sangean WR1 or Boston Acoustics Receptor. Many excellent features that the Sangean or Boston Acoustics Receptor don't have. I returned the radio to Target because the AM reception was just terrible. Also, the clock is very difficult to see at night; it's almost impossible to see the time clearly. I called the C Craine Company as they too sell these radios and know all their equipment well. They told me that all Tivoli Model 3s don't do AM well at all due to a very tiny built-in antenna and other design problems. I was disappointed as I listen to AM a lot.

Superb high-end radio with extras..

I own a slection of quality radios from Sony to Roberts and to say that Tivoli is the one to beat. Not only does it have the richest sound, but it's classic looks ooze style.
The tuner is the same as the model 1 and 2 but with the addition of a clock and alarm function to round off the device.
You can add an extra speaker to create stereo sound (there is even an option to have a clock and second alarm in the second speaker) and also add the matching CD and subwoofer to complete the system.

Some reviewers are critical about the additional cost of the model 3 to the model 1 just fora an additional clock /alarm.
This is matter for you to decide,.
I have a good stereo system set up in the lounge that I listen to most of the time. I wanted a nice radio for the bedroom and felt that it would be silly to use a $10 machine to wake me up, and then switch on a $100 machine to listen to.

If you are the type of person who can afford to treat your senses to a bit of retro-decadence then look no further. If you want a cheaper option with similar functionality, without losing sound quality (you probably like to wear anoraks and attend Star Trek conventions) then buy the model 1 and a plug in timer for the wall socket.

If you drive a BMW and think Rolex are great chronometers then buy a BOSE radio...you deserve each other.

'Nuff said.

Beautiful machine... thank you Mr Kloss
