P.O.S.

by Megan on Jul 21st, 2004 at 10:16 PM:

this phone is a piece of junk. i've had it for less than three months and already the silver piece at the top has come off, half of the buttons don't work, and my ringers/vibrate don't work. i'd love to get rid of it, but no way i'm going through siemens again. i thought germany was supposed to make good quality stuff. i'd probably cost more to fix this p.o.s. than i paid for it. no wonder it was a free upgrade.

Powers off

by jason on Apr 21st, 2004 at 9:25 AM:

I like the size and have NO probelms with the sound quality. However, the lack of ringtones and the fact that some of the functions are only available via voice command and not through menus.
I have a reoccuring problem where when I try to access the address book the phone just powers off. It is intermittant and they have replaced both the battery and the phone but the problems still happens. Maybe it is the SIM card but not sure. I will not be getting another Siemens phone.

Maybe one day it will work...

Cingular sent us this phone. We had the choice of Nokia or Siemens. I said "Eh, I'll try a Siemens for a change..." Bad move! It is a flaky phone. The microphone works sporadically. I call people...they hang up because they can't hear me. But then sometimes, it works great! Regardless, as soon as I can get to the nearest Cingular service center, I will do everything I can to get rid of this phone.

horrible display and sound

by Rick White on Mar 26th, 2004 at 3:11 PM:

Reception: well, that is a Cingular problem
Display: If the backlight is not on, you can't see the display. This was a dumb design to put dark text on a dark LCD back; and there is no daylight contrast. Screen looks as if it is black in room light. Needs direct sunlight if want to see any screen messages (missed calls, voice message, etc)
Ring: good ring tones and selection
Speakerphone: what? "can you hear me now? no.."
Touch: horrible. button configuration
Size: great, if you like small (fits in jean's 5th pocket)

This is my 5th cell phone (first Siemens, and probably last).
Best: Motorola and Ericcson

Great phone- loaded with features

by Josh on Mar 22nd, 2004 at 5:00 PM:

I love my siemens s56. I bought this phone because of the loaded features it has: bluetooth, irda, GSM, etc. Reading the last two reviews, I have not noticed the problems from the two previous reviews: establishing a gprs data connection w/ my Palm OS PDA (took me less than two minutes to setup and download my email from home and work), the vibrating alarm works great for me and I have no trouble hearing the phones ringtones in my pocket or suit coat, volume is great whether I am using the speakphone or up to my ear, the calls are very clear and people sound like they are right there next to you. I'm sorry for the last two reviewers it sounds like they have gotten a bum rap. I do agree that the keys are small but that's the price you pay for a small phone that weighs about 3oz. I also have not had to contact Siemens customer service either so I cannot give a comment on them. Overall, my phone has performed flawlessly and I have been very impressed with its consistent performance.
