Cool features, mediocre phone.

by Paul on Jun 28th, 2005 at 9:51 AM:

Like the other reviews on this webpage, my NEC 515 gets poor reception, drops calls regularly, and locks up as often. Easiest remedy is to undo the battery & start over. Also, syncing software does not allow for the downloading of files such as pictures or sounds as does the Nokia software for my Nokia 6800. Needless to say, I will not buy another NEC phone in the future.

Don't Buy It

This thing is a piece of crap. Each member of my family has one of these phones under a family plan, and we all have trouble with them. The phone has horrible reception, poor sound quality, randomly drops calls, and often freezes while I'm in the middle of a conversation. As soon as our 1 year contract is up (in 2 weeks), you can bet we're staying away from phones by NEC.

Phone drops almost every call

I purchased the NEC515 phone last February with AT&T service. The phone drops almost every call. I called AT&T and they swapped it with a new NEC 515 and the new phone does the same thing. What a piece of Junk! I will purchase a new phone next week and you can bet it will not be from NEC.

I just got this phone, and have not gotten too deep into it. One thing I have noticed, when i open the phone, sometimes it does not activate the speaker, so when i call people can hear me, but i can not hear them. I am currently in the process of contacting att about this problem

Poor RF dooms an otherwise great phone

by Maureen on Feb 17th, 2004 at 4:14 PM:

I used this phone for a month and sent it back. Bottom line is I am in a marginal GPS reception area for ATT. My roomate had a Seimens phone which worked. The NEC dropped call after call. It also kept changing network to Cingular, or just displayed SOS (its message for no signal). Got a Nokia 6200 to replace it. The Nokia, by comparison, usually has 3 or 4 bars out of 7 for signal, and doesnt drop the calls. So, in spite of a fantastic color screen, great sound, wonderful user interface, lots of memory, you name it, unless you use your phone consistently in a good signal area, the NEC's poor RF makes the phone nearly unusable.
