After 4 years all four of mine still working fine.

by Kevin on Oct 19th, 2009 at 2:41 PM:

User Score: 8.png The summary pretty much says it all. I bought five 120GB versions of these about 4 years ago. Four have been in use the whole time. Two of them being abused by my teenage son for the last 2 years or so and all are still working just fine.

The fifth was in a shelf in an unheated garage (in Northern NJ with the regional temperature range) since then. Just took that out a couple of weeks ago and opened it today. It is also operating fine after being stored for 4+ years.

I can not speak to the issues others have reported but can only say that I have experienced none of them. Perhaps there was a bad batch of them. My only complaint with this product is that they are a bit slow.

Still works great

User Score: 10.png I have had my Maxtor 160GB for almost 3 years, and it's fine even after months without use. Other reviewers say that it's the cases that fail. Maybe some people are treating the case like crap.

Another Failure

User Score: 2.png I just wanted to add my 2 cents to the complaining. My 200 GB 5000dv failed just after warranty. The Techs comments were "things like that happen". I wonder if Seagate knew what they were buying when they bought out Maxtor?

Great drive.

Don't buy

User Score: 1.png Had a very bad experience with it. Very unstable. One of our two drives never worked. Don't buy.
