No backsupport what so ever. The so called "eliminating manual adjustments" eliminates back support!!
Pain in the rear.
by Tom on Oct 4th, 2006 at 6:40 AM:
I am a lighter weight fit 35 year old male and thought since I sit at a computer in a home office all day I should invest in a nice chair. For a few years I had considered the Aeron but after plenty of research time I went with the fully loaded Freedom with Gel seat and armrest. I have the headrest version.
After a few months I now have pain in my right leg and rear when sitting in this chair. After spending the extra for the gel upgrade. What a crock! I know we are all built differently but this thing makes me feel like I am sitting on a bleacher. For $1000 I expect a little more than that.
The company won't do anything as far as replacing the seat cushion. They just refer you back to the reseller who tries to charge you some high amount to downgrade you to foam.
I had hoped that by spending money with a company dedicated to ergonomics and charging a premium I wouldn't be hung out to dry.
I would stay away unless you can sit in one for a few days. If it works than you might be fine spending your grand.
armrests are vinyl and split open

I'm a small woman and don't use the armrests to get out of the chair, but I do rest my elbows on them when I type and they have subsequently cracked/split on both sides. When I contacted Scan Design where I bought it for $1000 - they want another $129 each to buy replacements - so then they can crack again?!!? It is uncomfortable to rest your arms on them now and looks like some cheap thing - I might have done better at Costco.
IT STINKS WHEN ARMRESTS BREAK OFF

Great Chair!

These people work for the competition!
If you really want to see the chair and it's durability, I highly recommend you go to a store and sit on one with the headrest that has been on DISPLAY FOR A WHILE, and see for yourself if the chair has any defects. cause I will tell you that maybe hundreds of people have sat on it with no breakage.
this is my recommendation. After sitting on one that was on display for a YEAR, with no loose parts or cracked armrests (as these competitors claim), I had to buy one.
