I use Windows XP with my 901, it was more expensive but I've found it's worth it.
For such a small, compact system the 901 runs quickly, as long as you don't overload the memory. I'm using an external hard drive to handle most of my document, music and picture storage.
It loads quickly, there have been no complications with watching movies,playing music, running multiple programs ar once, playing games, or even editing video footage.
The 901 cannot be defeated in my eyes.
Linux desktop is possible

You don't even have to install a new Linux distribution to get a full working desktop. The default Xandros installation is Easy Mode. Do a search online for 901 Advanced Mode, and it is fairly simple (even for a non Linux geek like me) to set up advanced mode. When you power off, you will be given a "Full Desktop" option, which will boot into the KDE desktop, which will look much more familiar to Windows users. It also has some great features that Windows lacks - multiple virtual desktops are a godsend on a small screen. You can pick Easy Mode form the Launch menu (like the Windows start menu) to go back and forth between modes.

Claiming Linux is "unwieldy" is a lame, lazy way of saying "I'm not familiar with Linux". Linux is anything but - it's an extremely robust, flexible, powerful, well designed OS AND the reviewer failed to properly highlight the fact that the reason the Linux version comes with an extra 8GB of storage is because you're not paying the Microsoft tax for a bloated, poorly designed, 10 year old OS.
If you don't like the Xandros OS/Desktop that Asus installs on it, you can always install your own copy of Ubuntu (there's an eee pc tailored version called eeebuntu) FOR FREE!
My biggest beef is that Asus has apparently sold out to Microsoft, as after they built such a great buzz with the previous models, based mainly on their affordability (which again is thanks to their use of Linux), the first models of the 901 that are available through Amazon, Newegg, etc., are the crippled XP versions. Get the Linux version out there and I'll be first in line to buy it!

I'm in love...

I can't tell how nice it is to be able to carry it anywhere, anytime ("almost" in my jacket pocket).
It's more than fast enough with XP installed in the 4 gig flash drive and all my other programs (word processor, etc.) in the 16 gig drive...I have more than enough room...I'm using it mostly for web use.
When I'm sitting at a coffee shop, in the air, or in a bar and I watch others setting up their notebooks with the huge screens becoming so obvious and then hidden behind them...I smile...Because the tight little 901 does it ALL - while being so cool and discreet....If I want anything added, it's as simple as downloading on to my tiny 16gb portable USB flash drive and inserting in the 901...including movies...I can go on & on how well it's built and how perfect the 901 is for me, but you know this already....My only complaint is the the cover, a fingerprint magnet...Though everything else has been so well thought out after three previous try's....I'm more than happy, very little heat, solid state (I wouldn't ever go back to a breakable hard drive), 2gb RAM, good resolution, fast, and reliable, the Intel Atom CPU is wonderful, video cam is fine, heavy-duty hinge, battery time is mind-blowing great, keyboard is fine (I'm a two finger typist anyway, perfect) what can one expect, (than go to a larger notebook)...So what more can they add I don't need... what, touch screen, bigger CPU, larger HD - Don't need it...only if they add a "matte" cover, but that's not enough to make me want to exchange the 901...anyway all the mentioned is upgradable except the CPU and the Intel Atom two speed is more than adequate. This black 901 is almost perfect!!
