My second digital point and shoot
by Spencer Marshall on Dec 13th, 2007 at 11:01 AM:
I am far from a seasoned shutterbug however the improvements since my first digital camera (2.5 years ago) of the same price are amazing here.
I realized with my first camera that a more powerful zoom was in order. I mean real zoom ie: OPTICAL zoom.
This camera provided that and oh soooo much more.
Wider angle was my second wish. This one got me there as well.
The increased pre programming of the scene menues is right on for newbies like me.
My first cam gave me great shots of DC by night on a tripod. Wonderful shots. I am very much looking forward to doing that again with this cam.
The large LCD monitor is pleasing though I can not get the fast action following shots as easily as I could with the view finder of my old cam.
Took a little time but I no longer shove this cam to my head expecting a view finder:)
The menu on this cam is much easier then my first one. Many more common items I adjust are at or near the top level making the shot set ups faster.
This cam boots quick.
That little tiny thingie they call a battery lasts much longer then 2AA alkaline cells in my old cam. Not as long as the lithium AAs (gotta love those) but long enough to do a reasonable days shooting.
No pro ever talks about the digital zoom qualities in write ups. However this one delivers much more then my last did. I was afraid to use the digital zoom in my last cam. This one doesn't wreck the shot nearly as bad as my first one did.
The anti-shake really works!I can free hand shots I could not do before.
Within the next 2.5 years I fully expect to know enough to make a sound, reasoned DSLR purchase. I doubt this camera will ever be shelved as quickly as my first one was.
I shoot here and there, I am far from a pro however the results from my first (and now this great new piece of digital equipment) leave the folks I share my pics with wondering.
Right on Panasonic!
