Great device

by Pete on Mar 11th, 2009 at 9:42 AM:

User Score: 10.png I have had mine for over a year with no problems. I agree with Scott's comments above. If you change RAID modes, you need to first backup your data and then restore it after you reconfigure. Comments about passwords and USB are the operating system's issues, not the device.

Much better than the Western Digital Raid drive

User Score: 10.png This is the best external hard drive I've owned. I'm using the Raid 0 mode to backup three drives inside my Mac Pro. Using Time Machine with this drive is as seamless as current technology makes possible. I plan to buy another of these for my home system.

Good device

User Score: 10.png So far so good with this drive, set up in Raid 1. Out of the box it was set to what appeared to be RAID 1, but the little circular screw mechanism wasn't engaged, so in Disk Utility (OS X 10.5) it just appeared to be in JBOD form. Once I'd figured out that the hardware RAID setting was wrong, I turned it off, moved the mechanism on the back to RAID 1, and turned it back on. Then Disk Utility reported it as half the previously stated size and I knew we were in business. I then partitioned it in GUID (therefore bootable for Intel Macs) with three partitions of varying sizes and haven't had a problem since.

Raid selection wheel - bad

User Score: 4.png Just bought this and can only get two modes JBOD and Fast after two hours of trying to get the stupid little dial to line up just perfectly. I finally gave up and used JBOD and software raid from the Mac OS. Not good.

This LaCie Failed

by Mike Peacock on Jul 20th, 2008 at 9:48 PM:

User Score: 2.png After 6 months of use, this drive began to fail. Not a quick death mind you but a slowly over the 5th to 6th month of low usage. Just when we would think it had finally crashed, back it would come. No error messages, just failure to power up or stayed powered up.

Give it one star for its worth as a doorstop.
