I am very pleased with these speakers

by Diane on Aug 3rd, 2009 at 9:50 AM:

User Score: 9.png These speakers are tuned very flat, and indeed need some configuration, especially regarding the bass. But once you have adjusted them to your liking, the clarity and detail that come out of them is surprising. They simply do not sound like computer speakers at all. The sound is full and very detailed, and it is hard to leave your computer if you are using them.

The connection into the left speaker is rather sensitive and can be nudged out of its groove, but that is my only complaint. I recommend buying the rubber speaker stands. I bought these to replace my Klipsch speakers, and they are superior to the Klipsch.

A2 improvement...

User Score: 8.png If you're running the A2s on your Mac or PC Without an outboard DAC and stands, you will be missing the sound quality and imaging these great little speakers are capable of. If you decide not to use a DAC, don't plug them into the amplified speaker jack on your computer! Use the headphone jack or you'll get an audible hum.

Great little speakers . . .

User Score: 10.png I just bought these over a less-expensive, larger pair from M-Audio. They are being used as designed: as desktop computer speakers. They sound great! I wonder how they would sound with the bass going to AudioEngine's subwoofer...may be hard to beat that combo.

For our purposes (listening to iTunes/CD tracks) they are awesome--far, far better than any little plastic computer speakers. Can play VERY loudly while staying clear and balanced, which I appreciate.

I was hesitant to purchase them because they cost more than the M-Audios, which also sound good, but I'm completely happy with my purchase.

User Score: 9.png They will make you appreciate music in a way that you never have before. If all you care about is overpowering bass, then these are NOT for you. The bass is musical, not just loud thumps. As the review says, the bass is a little too thick without an EQ. Once adjusted, these are unbelievable. $200 is nothing once you hear these; they're worth well over $400.
