Terrible blurry indoor photos...at ANY ISO
by H. Hess on Aug 22nd, 2007 at 7:54 AM:
I am SO disappointed in this camera. I bought it because of the rave reviews about its indoor, low light, capabilities, but no matter what settings I tried (auto, M, Portrait, aperture or shutter priority) and changing the ISO from 100 all the way to 3200, this camera took BLURRY (NOT GRAINY) indoor pics without a flash. The outdoor pics were fine, no complaints, but that is NOT why I bought it...any cam will take good outdoor pics. You can NOT get a crisp clear pic without flash indoors or low light so WHY this camera is so highly rated? I'm mystified. When using flash indoors, it's overkill and just like any other cam but does have extreme red eye issues.
I would NOT recommend this camera to anyone who doesn't want to spend weeks learning the horribly confusing interface to get to settings (never saw a user interface so badly designed) so if you want a great point and shoot...don't buy this one! Auto mode is awful. After spending way too much time on settings trying to get a decent indoor pic, I gave up.
Great User Interface
by Aran on Jun 25th, 2007 at 9:07 AM:
I was expecting the low light performance to be good, and it is -- this is as good as it gets with compact point-and-shoots. What has surprised me is how much I also like the user interface and ergonomics. This is about the 6th or 7th digital camera I've owned and it is right up there with the best of them in terms of onscreen menus and button placement. I consider it FAR superior to the Canon, Sony and Nikon compacts out right now.
I agree...

Don't be taken in by the megapixel marketing and fancy cases, Photography is about one thing - Image quality. And nothing short of a DSLR will give you photos like this with a minimum of fuss. The SD1000 your review mentions might look better and have more features but the Fuji wipes the floor with it when it comes to taking photos.
Low noise
by Pmatt on Apr 5th, 2007 at 7:30 AM:
I think you are underplaying how much vastly better the high ISO noise characteristics of this camera compared to every other non-DSLR out there.
Yes, the camera has many flaws, and is lacking histogram, flash exposure compensation, and raw. But if you want something you can put in your pocket, take to a dimly lit party, and get decent results, this (and the F30) are literally the only options out there right now.

Just a few problems
by Stan on Apr 3rd, 2008 at 10:52 AM:
Some artificial light conditions (color lights at parties) produce completely useless pictures whereas other cameras don't have any problem.
Optical image stabilization is compulsory.
