Surprised
by Ian Bell on Mar 4th, 2004 at 9:33 AM:
I just bought one of these and I am suprised how long the batteries last in teh keyboard. I am pretty much on the computer all day and the batteries are still going strong. I also like the onscreen display when you turn on the CAPS lock or adjust the volume. I would highly recommend this keyboard.
Peerless wireless combo

Previous mouse was the 5-button MS Optical Explorer. While that was smooth and precise, the MX700 is like oiled silk (on the right mouse mat, anyway).
The thumb buttons are fiddly, however, and only the nearer is any use for fast gaming. The extra scroll and program switch buttons have so far proved excess to requirements, although they do not trigger by accident, which I was concerned about.
Battery performance so far is good, and I have never run out of juice. Although I am not one who plays all the way through Max Payne 2 in one sitting, I do play for a couple of hours at a time (when I can!) and the mouse has not let me down so far.
The keyboard is slim and lightweight, which compliments the wireless nature well. The keys are not the most solid, but see the previous sentence as to why this may be a good thing. The extra buttons are nice, but not essential, and I have yet to even try and master the wheel and buttons at the far left! On the whole, it has a good quality feel to it.
One problem I have had was interference with the mouse. It was quite bad, with constant freezing and stuttering, and I was about to return the set to the shop for a replacement, when I tried moving the cradle/ receiver away from the monitors/ speaker - only a few inches. I also noticed the cable was being squeezed by the myriad of cables that snake away through the hole in the top of my desk, and loosened that up. One of these actions fixed the interference problem - not sure which one!
This is the first wireless keyboard or mouse I have ever used, and it has proven much better than I anticipated. There is no perceptible delay in response times, even when playing twitch FPS games, and the freedom from cable drag/ catching is a boon. Put simply, you won't know what you're missing until you try it.
Good combo, not sure about longevity

I've been using this for about two months now, and I'm very happy with it overall. The MX700 (like the corded MX500) is a top-notch mouse. I know some people are not thrilled about the heft of it, but I find that a plus - it helps smooth out my motion.
The keyboard sits very low on the desktop, and has a snap-on "wrist support" that I tried briefly found to be more annoyance than anything. The feel of the keyboard is quite good, and is consistent with few errors (other than my own poor typing!). The logitech software for the mouse and keyboard works well and does not cause conflicts with any applications that I have tried.
The rechargable mouse seems to last about 10 days if you use it frequently and forget to charge it. If you toss it in the charger once a week at night, you'll never see the low battery warning.
The keyboard has a couple of unusual features to it. One is a scroll wheel on the left side (close to the shift key). I found this useful, though sometimes I bump it by accident.
There is a large rotary volume control at the top of the keyboard, which works well with winamp, MS Media player (ver 9) and other applications that I've tried. Unfortunately, the volume control is a little twitchy, and it can be difficult to find a setting between too low and too high.
The mute button is very handy when the phone rings, it's easy to find without having to look at the key labels.
There are the usual collection of application launch buttons; I rarely use these (it's usually just as quick to launch the app from the desktop; YMMV).
I've never had any problems with interference, even in a room full of computers and wireless networking gear. The keyboard includes an encrypted mode which makes it the only wireless keyboard I feel comfortable using.
The keyboard is a little "squeaky" after a couple of months of heavy (40-50 hours/week) usage, but I pound on keyboards, and every keyboard I own shows signs of physical wear after a couple of months.
All said, I'm very happy with the combo, and would reccomment it without hesitation.
Great combo, Decent Price

The MX700 is a great mouse that we have review before. I am looking to upgrade my mouse and keyboard soon, this is exactly what I would want to buy. I can't wait to get one !
