Not Vista Compatible
by Ron Senger on Dec 11th, 2007 at 9:49 AM:
Three months after I bought this "Vista Capable" machine I installed Vista Ultimate. Right away I noticed that the fingerprint scanner wouldn't work. Of Course Microsoft was of no help. That's a given. So I started the back and forth between Lenovo and the company that built the scanner and scanner software. Apparently there was a company buyout. Some software is supported but not the software shipped with Lenovo's. So now the built-in fingerprint scanner doesn't work. Putting a sticker on a machine that says it is capable of running Vista means that it will still function when running Vista. The Lenovo's clearly will not function, and Lenovo will not stand behind the product. This is flat out false advertising and the company should be sued.
Also, a plastic hinge cap fell off. It will cost almost $40 to replace a 10 cent piece of plastic. To be fair this does include $13.50 shipping and handling for something the size of a stick of gum... Thieves
Nice, but keyboard layout is weird
by Sam on Nov 9th, 2007 at 11:02 AM:
My wife uses one occasionally. Looks and feels sturdy, still no problems after a few months.
I wouldn't buy it for myself, though -- both hands are required to use End and Home keys because these are alternate functions (via Fn) of PgDn and PgUp. This is just unacceptable considering my text editing habits. The line AltGr - PgUp - PgDn - Home - Up - End would be a lot better. Two missing keys could be easily "salvaged" by cramming Win/Application keys into one (Fn again) and omitting the right Ctrl key.
I'm not sure whether this can be fixed with MS Keyboard Layout Creator. Anyway I expect that the keyboard, being such an important feature for me, has no flaws from the very beginning.
Lenovo 3000 V1000 is a lemon

I have had nothing but trouble with this laptop since I got it. I have spent hours with the highly touted support folks in Atlanta to no avail. I also sent the computer in for repair. They held if for two weeks and returned it to me with the same problem - cannot browse internet or log into sites which makes it useless for work. I have been particularly unimpressed with the way they have "managed" my case. They change case numbers within a relatively short time frame so they lose track of what's already been tried to troubleshoot the problem. DO NOT GET THIS COMPUTER!
Worst thing that ever happened....

I totally agree with Jan Olin. This laptop is garbage. For the first two months it was ok..but after that I had one problem after another. And even after giving it for repairs, I would get it back with another problem.Either the technician was bad at IBM or there is something drastically wrong with the laptop. So if you have really important work to do on your laptop..I suggest you dont buy this brand because it will definetly let you down. I really regret buying this...:(

Bunch of problems
by Roman T. on Feb 4th, 2008 at 11:47 AM:
1. There were multiple problems with keyboard, e.g. you cannot type) immediately after (- you have to wait for 1 second =:0
2. Comp sometimes freezes when you plug in power cord.
3. Speakers quality is bad and sometimes the sound is totally distorted so I have to restart Windows. I'll probably never get Lenovo again.
