Not good for VCR to DVD

by Tilby on Dec 1st, 2006 at 3:12 PM:

VHS to DVD record function creates muddy DVD videos with poor contrast. I've talked with Sony tech support three times and upgraded the firmware & tried the following: various media as recommended by sony, all quality settings on the unit including HQ setting, several different cables, several different VHS playback machines, even went to a video store to play back the DVD on the latest equipment hoping to buy a unit that works with this unit properly. Nothing worked. The DVD movies always turned out noticeably less clear than the original TV broadcast recorded. I've burned through a lot of DVD's in the last 8 months trying make the unit work. I had high hopes & have now given up. Positives: it works most of the time with Sony mini DVD camcorder. About 15% of the tape to DVD transfers don't work and you have to start over with a new blank DVD. All my photo transfers from CF and SD cards have worked. Any ideas to make this work with VHS tapes? j1203w at Yahoo Thanks.
