Great Audio media

by Enrique7 on Aug 25th, 2008 at 9:43 PM:

I got a Olive Musica on Ebay in may-08,said it is brand new, the Olive has been with me for over 3 months and I did not have any single problem, the suond is solid, easy to use if I have to complaint about something this could be the time the Olive take to rip the music to the hard drive, after that everything is fine

Great product but a bit of a learning curve

by Bryan L on Feb 4th, 2008 at 11:21 AM:

Purchased a used 250GB Olive Musica on eBay and upon hooking it up it did nothing but display the OLIVE "live better" screen. Didn't matter how many buttons I pushed!! A little bit pissed to say the least. Downloaded the operating manual and read through pertinent parts (troubleshooting at the very back) until I finally got it to come alive. Have called the toll free support line and received very good information and help. A couple of very useful notes...

When importing CD's notice the small blinking musical notes in the top right corner of the display just to left of the time. DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE NOTES QUIT BLINKING!!!! DON'T TURN IT OFF, DON'T TRY TO EDIT THE META TAGS, DON'T EVEN USE IT AS A SOURCE TO LISTEN TO WHILE IMPORTING CD'S.

If you follow this advice the thing works wonderful. If you don't it will freeze up and have all sorts of problems.

Also really like the remote for accessing your music. Use the alpha numeric keys NOT the up down arrows for getting through all the "Artists" or "Albums", etc.

The hard drive is very quiet for a hard drive but it is still a hard drive and it is NOT silent. When I want absolute silence for near field listening I let it "sleep" and use another Source.

This Is a Great Product but the user manual leaves a bit to be desired and doesn't tell you a few key details. This is taking the place of my old Marantz DR700 CD Recorder that's getting a little finicky about recording (too many hours spent recording the perfect disc only to discover it won't play on many other players). With the Musica now I create a playlist and press record - done. Anyway... I thought I should tell this tale for anyone thinking about buying an Olive but might be timid after reading some of the reviews.

Worst Consumer Experience I Ever Had

by Glenn Kincaid on May 25th, 2007 at 7:46 AM:

If you are considering buying anything from Olive Media, run away and fast. I bought a Musica, had problems right out of the box. Tech support was not terribly helpful. What they are really good at is reciting all the reasons they can't help you. The corporate policies are extremely anti-customer. Being old fashioned and naive, I expected them to step up to the plate and support their product - after all I spent $1500. No dice. If you are considering this sort of hardware check out a SONOS Zone player. It really works and the tech support efficiently salves your problems instead of treating you like a criminal.

Poor / no documentation provided

by Jay Zerbe on May 3rd, 2007 at 9:13 AM:

I received my Symphony yesterday. No manual was provided, just 3 sheets of paper with a few instructions, notably "It's so easy you don't NEED a manual." (read: we didn't write one so GOOD LUCK!). Appalling. I'm struggling to get it up and running.

Two thumbs down for Musica

by DC Audio on Apr 30th, 2007 at 12:19 PM:

I have had endless problems with my Musica since purchasing in October 06. My first unit had absent Wi-Fi access, and needed to be repaired. It eventually crashed. Exchanged for second unit (returned without my 175 CDs transfered over), which stops and crashes intermittently.

I am now returning unit #2 for repair/replacement.

I would never purchase this unit again, but have invested so much: $240 for shipping; $275 to re-rip my CD collection; $350 for Nokia controller that I am reluctant to stop now.
