LIFE DRIVE - A BIG FAILURE MACHINE
by NIMISH on Oct 8th, 2008 at 2:24 PM:
I BOUGHT THE LIFEDRIVE LESS THAN A YEAR AND IT FAILED TO OPERATE. I SEE FOLLOWING BUGS.
1) THE HOTSYNC DO NOT FUNCTION WELL WITH LAPTOP
2) IT HALTS IN BETWEEN AND NEED RESET ALL TIME
I USED TO RESET 15-20 TIMES IN 1 HOUR.
3) THE PALM OS IS NOT CAPABLE TO RUN THIS MUCH PROGRAMS,
I THINK NOKIA IS THE BEST. E71 IN PARTICUALR.
DO NOT BUY LIFE DRIVE. IT'S WASTE OF MONEY.
Something is missing

I owned one for about 45 days. I had to send it back due to hard drive failure. This is not an uncommon issue. The Palm OS was not ready for this kind of Mobile Manager with a microdrive. The os initially was very buggy which lead to alot of resets hence the hardrive failures.
I believe that Palm has released a bios update to solve some of the problems.
The unit is a good all-in-one compromise. It had an excellent screen, large storage, good interface and a solid looking design.
I believe that for a few extra dollars they could have made this unit one to remember. Palm installed a miniscule 32mb ram to operate programs from and swapped everything to the microdrive. with 64 or 128mb the swapping would have been reduced or eliminated. the battery consuption for more RAM would have been less than constaly swapping to the microdrive.
all in all it was a good shot. however once the cards are on the table its hard to pull an ace to win the hand.
Excellent PDA

Don't believe the specs page...this PDA is not 6.5in deep! It's only 0.75in deep.
As a PDA it's great. All the usual PIM apps encased in the beautifully simple PalmOS. All the connectivity you can think of (WiFi, Bluetooth, IR, USB, SD/SDIO card reader/writer) plus a 4Gb microdrive. This expand the practicality of the PDA into almost laptop areas....I use mine as a simple laptop...file storage, music player, photo and movie player, email / web, office docs...sounds like a laptop to me! Coupled with a foldaway keyboard, this thing is superb during business meetings or in conferences for note taking in Word, then go fo a coffee in Starbucks and listen to streaming radio while emailing your docs to the office using WiFi. Sweet.
