JVC doesn't suck ;)

by Mikey Accident on Dec 5th, 2008 at 10:40 AM:

I bought this brand new in 1996 for $100. I only bought it for the low price and I have never regretted it. I have used it an average of 8 hours a day almost every day and it still works great. I use 2 150w technic speakers and it's louder than an average person would ever need. I always believed JVC was junk (and probably still won't buy another product from them) but this was the best purchase I ever made. One feature that has come in handy for me is plugging in headphones doesn't mute the speakers, not a common feature in 96.i would never sell it.

Excellent buy

I bought this receiver in May of 2008 at a flea market, no remote with it. The seller told me that it worked, so for ten bucks I took the gamble. I needed a decent stereo in my shop as I am a musician/aircraft mechanic and enjoy a decent stereo to listen to as I work. Long story short, it worked and really well, I noticed that the surround sound works, but the volume must be cranked a bit before the surround comes into its own. I hooked up to a couple of old Bullfrog P.A. speakers, 1-12, 1-10, 1 mid-horn and 2 super piezos per cab, and the 110 watts per channel from this little jewel really gives them a workout. I don't have any idea how old this unit is as I have never been a fan of JVC. Needless to say now I am. The tuner sensitivity I would consider very good, as most FM stations I listen to are 75 miles or a bit further away.

Good for what it is

It does good with the FM and AM powers my speakers good but diapointed in the aspect that it does not do 5.1 or andy kind of suround sound...even though it has the logo of surround sound on the unit...all it does is two channel....

average unit with great surround

Output not as clean as it could be.ok for the money.Very poor fm tuner channel capture. poor sensitivity.this receiver does not even know that 3/4 of the channels i get on a lousy $20 car radio are their. This is with a basic decent antenna.no subwoofer out. no processing loop for eq , but you can put it in through tape monitor if you don't use cassets. use tape in/out jacks.nice remote.nice remote volume control.if it had a midrange control you would not really need an equalizer.surround sound works great even with 2 speakers.
