Complete Piece of JUNK!
by Brittany on Apr 14th, 2008 at 11:37 PM:
This is the worst computer ever! I have had it for nearly four years, however, it has been sent away being "fixed" for about half of that. It overheats like crazy, and turns off all of the time... definitely not good for a college student like myself. Due to my experiences with this laptop, I will NEVER purchase a Toshiba anything ever. Don't waste your money on this crap.
Over heating problem - do not buy

I had this laptop for quite a long time, just because I cannot afford a newer one... satellite A75-S206, do not buy at all! It has some overheating and/or touchpad problems. On other websites they said it was the paste under the heat sink that wasn't good, so I changed (to open this laptop you'll need a guide because is really hard) but still I didn't solve the problem. what I could do is to set the processor speed lower so that it doesn't get hot so much... because before I couldn't watch movies at all... and now I have to pray the computer gods to spare me from the rebooting, every time I watch a DVD, or simple video.
Also, when I'm shopping at the computer store, every time I see the Toshiba brand it makes me sick and nervous and so it ruins my day. Really, they say that it is just this laptop that they messed up, but I won't go with a Toshiba for the next 100 years... oh, the firmware update they did on this computer, was to slow down the processor speed, so watch out for that... good luck... the only almost positive thing is that pretty much all the hardware is recognized by Ubuntu, including the wireless card... that's why I'm giving this laptop a rating of 1.
Toshiba Satellite A75 is the worst!!!!

This computer is a waste. I have had so many things replaced not to mention the frustration because it constantly over heats and shuts down. DO NOT PURCHASE--I am not a Dell fan but my husband's computer Inspiron 6000 is on constantly and is a workhorse with no problems!
Excellent machine!!!

Ok, I buy a A75-S1253 in January 2005, p4 3.2gh, 60gb, 256ram, and its work perfectly. Only take her in one time to repair and it was the touchpad (that by the way I broke it, but he did fail to work), I upgraded the ram to 768 and nothing more. I am a salesman and I use it every day, she paid for herself a lot of times, its super fast and reliable, never lost nothing by her fault, it's a workhorse

I fixed it by getting a chill pad ($25) at Target. Then I had a problem with the power adapter or something. Anyways, I couldn't fix it, Toshiba did.
Then it crashed some upgrades I made. The added memory made it too fast and overheat even faster. It was caching something it shouldn't and it messed up my hard drive. To get the diagnostic of this problem, I took it apart a couple times and that was easy.
Just 40 some screws latter, I figured out that it was the memory when I put it back together one piece at a time. Now 4 years latter there is still hardly any laptop out to match the speed and processing power of this laptop, heck it's still faster than most desktops. I am just now running in to problems with it not having a good enough video card to run Spore.
I like it despite.
