Great budget laptop

by Odis Arnold on Sep 10th, 2007 at 11:15 PM:

I have had my satellite a60 for one year, and it works just great. Had an issue with a blue screen and some ati2dvag file but upgraded bios to 1.9 and it worked perfectly. Good laptop for the price couldn't expect better from a laptop; so decently priced..

A very bad laptop

I have suffered so much with this laptop. First problem of overheating occured when it was 25 days old. I sent it in for repair and that's what I have doing for quite some time. My advice to others would be NEVER BUY A TOSHIBA LAPTOP. There could be other models which are great, but Toshiba failed to take responsibility for the manufaturing defect of this particular model. I felt myself cheated.

Great Laptop, No Problems!

I have had the Satellite A60 for 2.5 years and have not had any issues with it. It is used every day and performs flawlessly. That said, I have upgraded the RAM to 768 MB and that gave it a real boost. It's a good all around laptop and it's given me my money's worth.

A Fix!!!

I know that the laptop is not very good, needs more ram and does get hot. I had all the same overheating problems that you guys have, but there is an easy fix! follow steps 5 to 8. Then when the keyboard is out you will be able to see the fan it is attached with 3 screws remove them (it is tight) then stick your hoover in there. Put it back and bingo. However you will have to do it about every 6 months. But if like me you have no other choice, make it work!

Toshiba A60 overheats

by SE on Apr 30th, 2007 at 11:45 AM:

Having had an old Toshiba which is still working (thought it has only 32mg of Ram!) I bought this one for my daughter's use at university. We took it back within one year due to overheating and shutting down. At that time the service department of the store where we purchased it told us it was a faulty fan and dust so they repaired it under warranty. We also got a cooler pad to place under the unit to avoid problems again.

Within a few months it was overheating again and we brought it back for repair. They now tell us it is a dust and grease issue which is not covered by the $400 plus warranty I purchased, so I have to pay $80 for an hour's worth of technical repair. They tell me the warranty is for "hardware" issues and this is not one. I tell them it certainly isn't software that is making this overheat and shut down! I am not happy as what is to prevent this from happening again? My daughter needs her computer for school and can't rely on this Toshiba. I want to purchase a laptop for my son now, but I will not buy another Toshiba as I have lost faith in the quality. I also won't buy another computer from that store as I feel they have been dishonest in both selling their warranty and in dealing with repairs. From what I can see on this site, others have had problems with this computer, so why won't this company be honest and cover problems in their warranty?
