Boomboxes are loud, but seldom have great audio. The Tivoli PAL is far from a boombox, but has the best audio I've ever heard from a portable radio. In addition, you get the satisfying feel of a precision analog tuner. No digital synthesizer noise here! You will hear the full range of audio that FM radio can deliver. The included rechargable batteries will keep the radio playing at moderate volume for 10 hours or more, before needing to be recharged. The batteries are NiMH, so you can top them off at any time without worrying about "memory effect". The AM/FM tuner is unusually precise and sensitive for a portable radio. And finally, the Tivoli PAL has an aux/in jack so you can use it as a rich-sounding speaker for your i-pod or laptop. Conclusion: the Tivoli PAL is a bit pricey, but well worth it, in my opinion.
