Tips for the HDTV Wonder

by JD on Apr 7th, 2008 at 2:27 PM:

This is not the capture card for the first time computer user. I've had my card for almost 2 years and it seems to be an ongoing project. I have found that the original software works best, just skip installing the TV listings software (Guide Plus+) it has going trouble never works at 100 percent. If you're running Vista you can also forget about this card as ATI does not have drivers, same goes for Linux. The other downfall to this card is that it has the ability to decode QAM signals but the feature is not accessible, Thanks. If it helps I'm running this on a system with 2GB of ram, a AMD Sempron 64 CPU 2.01GHz, an Ati X550 256mb video card and a 160GB SATA HDD.

Erratic Junk

by Mel Renneckar on Aug 2nd, 2007 at 8:02 AM:

ATI's previous products worked just fine until this junk. Frequent frame freezes or complete frames that do not update resulting in ~5 F/Sec video until a channel change and then back resets "something". Updates either don't "initialize" (missing decoder) or one of the FOUR setup.exe(s) is missing!! RF Remote Wonder is worthless. I suspect that ALL of these problems are due to VERY POOR SOFTWARE DESIGN.

Very sorry product & support

by dac on May 23rd, 2007 at 9:30 AM:

Don't buy ATI. I've had this for over a year and it has never worked. I have tried installing on several systems with xp & mce with no luck. At best it works briefly but then skips or freezes. My HD reception is very good on TV tuner but the 'wonder' card gives unwatchable picture except with analog signal. I have to assume that the good reviews of this product were written by ATI employees. I will no longer buy any products from ATI. It is difficult to understand how they have remained in business with such poor product support. I have previously purchased other ATI video cards and although they eventually worked installation is always problematic and the software among the worst. Dont buy ATI!

JUNK !!!

by Gary Babcock on Mar 5th, 2007 at 7:20 PM:

Don't waste your time or money on this inferior product. This is perhaps the WORST I have seen from ATI.

Usually I can get their stuff to work and when I do, it works great but this HDTV Wonder card is well named, I "Wonder" how anyone ever got the thing to work.

All I get is a little message saying that the TV will not initialize. I have tried it in three computers, all HIGH END machines with the biggest of everyting.

I have gone to another brand of card and actually threw this ATI junker in the trash. It wasn't even suitable for an EBAY "AS IS" sell.

That is my Humble Opinion.....

Great card, but updates are junk

by Mugsy on Nov 25th, 2006 at 7:20 AM:

I've had my HDTV Wonder for nearly a year now and the ONLY time I've had a problem with it is when I stray from the original install CD software and try the latest update from ATI. The updates never install cleanly or easily. You can't just install the new version over the old version. And knowing which programs to delete and which to keep is a crap shoot. And if you screw up, you'll have to uninstall EVERYTHING ATI-related... INCLUDING your ATI video card driver (grumble)... and reinstall everything from scratch, which then means reconfiguring everything all over again, setting your presets and putting it all back the way you like. It's easier just to back up your entire C: drive before update and restore it if you run afoul. Most importantly, ALWAYS start by installing the dated software off the supplied CD first... the newer software relies on latent elements to work.
