DVD player freezing up

by Phil on Aug 25th, 2007 at 3:54 PM:

I too tried what Mike did except for lubricating guide shafts. Thank you Mike for giving me another thing to try. It seemed like mine would freeze about half way through the show, any idea what kind of lubricant to use. Would 3 in 1 oil be ok ?

DVD failure; VCR still works

by James on Jul 4th, 2007 at 8:52 AM:

After two years, the DVD player freezes and skips. We complained to Netflix many times, but then tried those DVD's in other players where they worked just fine. The VCR component stilll works, but we will have to get a DVD player

I wish I had read this sooner

I bought the DVD combo maybe 3 years ago, and didn't have much troube with it for the first 2 but for the last 6-9 months the DVD player would freeze and skip... I used compressed air from a can for electronics and it seemed to help.. think I am going to have to tear the thing apart and see if that fixes it. I have a $20 piece of crap DVD player that plays all my discs perfectly and I am very careful with my stuff so it's not the DVD's. 5/10 only as it did fine for the first 2 years.

DVD Freeze Fix

by Mike on Jul 24th, 2006 at 9:14 AM:

I had the same freeze problem with my DVD freezing with this product also. But before I decided to trash it I removed the top cover, removed the 2 screws holding down the circuit board, lift gentley, open DVD drawer, clean laser with Q Tip and electronic cleaner. Then do same on the 2 laser guide shafts be thorough by manually rotating big white gear that will move laser reader up the guide shafts. Then do the same thing on shafts with a light oil lubricant on a Q tip. It worked out great for me so far no problems since. The dirt and film must cause the laser reader to freeze up. Good Luck and be careful to those willing to try this.

doesn't read DVDs anymore

by John on Jan 3rd, 2006 at 6:46 PM:

I've had my DVD/VCR combo for 18 months, now it won't read anymore DVDs, it tries to read and comes back with an 'ERR' message on the unit and 'incorrect disk' message on the TV screen. I paid $200 for this macj=hine, I'll stick with JVC from now on.
