Good reliable drive - good warranty also.

by Mike on Mar 31st, 2008 at 11:48 AM:

Good, reliable drive with a long 5 year warranty. I bought this drive because it is a higher reliability than the usual class of desktop drive. (Maxline plus vs. the usual DiamondMax line)

After 3 years of constant use it died. Hard drives die, you can't get around it - have a backup. I had a new drive within a week after sending it in and have another 5 years of warranty. What more can you ask for?

How many people are stating biased opinions based on owning just 1 drive? Having 1 hard drive die on you is life, it happens with every brand. I deal with thousands of drives, get one with a good warranty and back up your data.

Needle in a haystack

Well either I have had the exception or as anticipated no one ever speaks about the good, only the bad. I have had my 250gb Maxtor for 3 years now and I have had it on 24x7 most of the time, rebooted at least 200-300 times, done a retarded amount of data transfers completely filling the drive and emptying, countless defrags and numerous BC Wipe DoD 3-7 time pass cleansing and the drive still works like a champ without any issues. I have had a couple Maxtor's in the past and they have always done me right. I will say though that Western Digital is the defector standard in reliable hard drives and though expensive the raptors are the standard in fast Sata drives. Regardless, I felt someone needed to speak up for these things, they aren't all bad... Perhaps it's specifically the ones that come from Dell that has problems and not so much the OEM ones like mine.

Excellent

I have owned Maxtor's for about 10 years now. I am still running a 40 GB Maxtor that I found at the bottom of a computer box scratched up and pretty worn but still works like it was new. Just got my newest 250 GB Maxtor and no problems :) very happy

Mine died also...

It's been 3 years, I think. And now it's dead.

Stay away from Maxtor products, is what I'd say.

Seemed good......until it died

Bought this drive in July 2004, and it seemed to work great. Then after less then a year it started to have a bad sector here or there and seemed to hang on long read/writes. I'm told my 3 year warranty is up after 2.5years, go figure.
