Really old now - still using it - still works
by Dave on Mar 7th, 2008 at 9:56 AM:
My wife got me one for $1100 from Costco back when that was cheap. Battery life dubious. Heavy, no question.
Broke off the center pin on the power socket after a couple of years. Found the identical machine for sale at the repair shop - got it for the price of the new screen they had put in ($400 - can get a new unit for that now!) Bought a new connector & put it in - what a chore! Now have 2 identical laptops.
Replaced HDD after death with faster 40GB. Restore disks perfect to get back to XP basic level; MS OK to upgrade to SP2.
Using dongle for wireless home NTW - cheapest way.
Very happy over all with both. Can't justify replacing; *not* getting Vista.
Re viruses: have Trend and Avast - have had one leak in 4 years. Did NOT click except to cancel-cancel-cancel until gone. No repercussions. Surf often, no porn. Pay bills on line, do taxes, buy stuff, no PayPal. So far, so good.
Nice computer, works pretty well but had some major problems

It's a really nice laptop. When we bought it it was amazing!! All kinds of games worked on it for a few years. Now its slowly but surely falling to pieces, not literally. First, the sound went. I was listening to music, and all of the sudden it just stopped. That was months ago, and the computer has been silent ever since. Next we started getting really bad viruses and spyware and stuff. Now it barely works and its taking me half an hour to write this review. We might get a new laptop soon, but this one rocked while it lasted.
Great comp

I've had mine for a long time now (like 6 years) with no problems besides the HDD dying (I need a bigger one anyways.) The first guy is right, some better gfx would make this sweet. The second guy is a computer nub, since problems with spyware/viruses/etc. have nothing to do with the hardware your on- thats all software.
good, almost great

Its a great computer, nice cpu/ram theres a good amount of ports, had a dvd reader, decent battery life. Had mine for about 3yrs. no problems except the HD. The one thing killing it is the video card - it an almost gaming pc. Everything is there to play almost any game, just has integrated grapics.
