GenevaSound Home Theater

November 25th, 2008 | by Nick Mokey

Why buy a home theater cabinet to fill with a pile of boxy home theater system components when you can just buy one unit that is your home theater system? So goes the logic behind GenevaSound’s new Home Theater, a black slab of furniture that houses everything you need to rock, built right in.

From the outside, the Swiss-built system looks like any other flat-screen TV stand, albeit an exceptionally modern and refined-looking one. Save for the circular bulge in its front door, it’s all sharp edges, from its cleanly segmented front panels to the metal framework below that gives it a few inches of clearance off the ground. And all black, too.

Inside, though, it’s totally unique. Geneva has packaged seven speakers, a 12-inch subwoofer, a 700-watt amplifier, CD player, and FM radio into one unit. The cabinet even includes an iPod/iPhone dock notched into its top, making a discrete and tasteful home for your player. And though the design minimizes the need for outside components, there’s room for video accessories like Blu-ray players, game consoles, and cable boxes inside, too.

The GenevaSound Home Theater retails for $3,999, which is far more than the fiberboard-and-plastic models you can pick up at the local retailers, but on the other hand, it’s far more than just a box, too. More information can be found at Geneva’s Web site.
